Anna Iris’ Story – an alzheimers’ anecdote

So after so much pondering there was no question about it. I signed on to becoming a dementia carer for at least a year. Now the question wasn’t of whether I would stay on the job, but it was of how I would survive it. Me and Dorothy just kept clashing! How I would get [...]

Jeanne’s Story

I am the only child of a single parent. My mother and I, always incredibly close, the best of friends. She was a very active, intelligent and sociable woman. Up to the time she had her stroke, she was looking after my baby son while I ran my business part time. I remember feeling incredibly [...]

I have been caring for others in one way or another since I was eleven years of age so I believe I am in a position to discuss it here. I began caring for my son the day he became a paraplegic on 27/1/02 and it continues to this day. The impact of that day [...]

Your Story?

I found writing 'Jeanne's Story' beneficial in many ways. Among other things, it gave me a greater understanding of my feelings during the most difficult times when I was caring for my mother. I hope some of you have been able to identify with the story, or one of the other carers’ stories, and have found it helpful.

If you would like to write and share your story, please send it to mystory@mycareoptions.ie. It doesn't have to be any particular length, and if you prefer, we can put it on the site without your name.
